Jan Nargi, a single mother of two, is a registered nurse who worked in enough emergency rooms to know the signs of addiction, but failed to recognize them in her own family. Her son, Tommy, is a heroin addict. He started abusing Oxycontin when he was sixteen and graduated to mainlining heroin by age eighteen. This is their story. The one of his life chasing the high, and her life chasing after him.

They hope their collaboration will strengthen their relationship, assist Tommy on the road to recovery, and offer help and encouragement to others struggling with the battle of addiction. They pray their story will convince you to chase a new high, a natural high on life. This story is factual. It is graphic. It is real. There is no hero in heroin.

There Is No Hero in Heroin (Audible Audio Edition) Janice Nargi, Johanna Fairview, Jan Nargi Books Reviews

This mother's gut-wrenching story of her son's addiction will break your heart. She leaves nothing to the imagination. I would recommend this to anyone who is dealing with a family member in the throes of addiction.
I picked up the book and couldn't put it down. Well written and painfully honest. This is the ultimate struggle of a family as they cope with the challenge of life with an addict. I have watched this same roller coaster ride with a cousin and it never seems to come to a full and complete stop. I highly recommend this to anyone who has ever known, lived with, or loved a person with an addiction.
This book was informing of the life of an addict. As you read it, you can identify as the parent. The endless journey, in and out of rehabs, in and out of jail and the continued behavior. Helps to teach you how to understand what the addict is thinking and how he feels. What the drug does to the body. The true life of an addict.
As A single mother of two boys I read Janice Nargi's book, Theres No Hero In Heroin! This is such a powerful book about a single mothers journey through her sons addiction to Heroin. I honestly could not put this book down. Whether you have a family member addicted to Heroin or not this is a great way to be educated about the pull of drugs and the terrible way it affects everyone in its path! I read this to learn more about addiction and what a great education I got! Shes a wonderful writer and you feel her pain and see her determination to save her son from this dark mistress! A MUST READ!
And the fallout within the family. Heroin continues to destroy families and kill our children. I would encourage anyone to read this book and get a glimpse into how heroin is affecting society. I would like it to be required reading by our governments elected officials in Washington so that they can do the right thing and fund CARA.
Janice shares her story so very honestly which is a gift to other parents who are struggling with their child's addiction. She sends a loud clear message, "You are not alone." Her son shares life from his perspective also and that is an invaluable resource. To hear what it feels like to be the addict, what feelings led to them using to begin with, why they continue, what the driving force is behind their poor choices and behavior...very eye opening. This is a book that every parent of an addict, or a parent wanting to know what signs to look for, will be able to relate to and understand and learn from. Very worthwhile read.
I read several books about the topic of drug addiction and this book was so very insightful to me. My job puts me in positions where I am working with clients' who have substance abuse issues and I try to understand the dynamics of what led them to make those choices. This book helps me to understand that piece of addiction.
The way the book is written and back and forth between the mother of the addict and the son who is trapped by his own demons, is what makes the book unique. As addiction does affect everybody and becomes a *family disease* which is what the author shows us.
Thank you for sharing such a sensitive and fragile part of your life with us and I hope over time, there is a 2nd book with a happy ending.
Peace and love be with you and your son.
Wow this book was awesome. It made me cry at times but was an amazing book. I am a recovering drug addict and to hear a story about what a mother goes through with is so sad. At times we do not realize what we are actually putting our families through until you read this book. I knew I put my mother through hell but did not think logically about it until reading this book. I am a blog writer, and run a page on Facebook about my story and my recovery.. I felt the passion in her writings, and in her son writings. I hope there will be another book to see how your son is doing now! Everything you explained about your son was similar to my adventures. I am not 6 years clean (there is HOPE). I hope he is sober today!!! Always praying for the addicts still suffering, the ones in rehab, and the ones that are still trying to find their way... and also families of addicts that are only trying to understand. Jan did an amazing job of explaining addiction, and how it works.. and the emotions that the family goes through as well as brothers. Amazing book!! MUST READ!!
